Autochk Program Not Found error
Autochk Program Not Found error – Windows XP Service Pack 3
Windows XP will not load. you are getting the error: “ Autochk Program Not Found error” and then your computer blue screens and reboots. What do you do???
I recently got a call to work on a fellow Winnipeger’s computer to do a Virus removal. When I got the machine it turns out that I wouldn’t be needing to remove a virus at all. It was really a Winnipeg Computer repair. It turns out on the clients Gateway machine that Windows XP service pack 3 was installed. Service pack 3 really hooped the machine.
I was able to fix the machine by copying a file from another machine. The full path to the file is: C:\windows\system32\drivers\mountmgr.sys
You can copy the file several different ways. I used “Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows” and thumb drive. I placed the file on the thumb drive. Booted the hooped machine with the UBCD-4-Win Disk. Renamed the old file to “mountmgr.sys.old” and then copied the file on the thumb drive into the same directory that it was copied from.
Reboot the hooped machine.
The machine will then say that the setup did not complete last time and that it would try and fix it. Go get a coffee, then another, and then go for a walk. The process is not lighting fast but you only have to say “allow windows to remove the failed update” and way it goes.
I hope this helps you.
