I am really excited about the Blackberry playbook and I think the hype is warranted. There are a few things that RIM should do to dominate the market:

Come up with a way to get ipad apps working FLAWLESSLY on the Blackberry Playbook. This would most likely involve using a conversion process. We all know it’s the apps that made the ipad the ipad. By allowing Blackberry users to have access to thousands of apps right of the hop would be a huge boon to RIM. They should offer this as a FREE software download and make it very user friendly.

Make sure to tweak the powersetting on the device. Because it is so much more powerfull then the ipad they have to make sure it isn’t a juice bug.

Don’t forget who where you came from and who REALLY loves you RIM! Businesses are what got you to where you are. Make sure that the devices are secure and play well in business environments. Remember it’s the consumer market where your image will come from. Don’t play second fiddle to Apple or Google.

Continue to improve BES. BES is a server software that allows Blackberry to sync with Server Software like Microsoft Exchange. Honestly this is the one two punch because there is no other phone provider that allows you to do this. If it wasn’t for BES Rim you’d be in MUCH worse shape. I applaud you for giving BES express away free to small businesses.

Make sure that it looks good and feels good. You also have to make sure it more rugged then the ipad.

What do you think?

There is most likely three ways you can change the Blackberry Maximum Security Timeout. The first way is on the phone. If you can not change it on the phone then there is a policy enforcing the Blackberry maximum time out.

I will first go over how to change the Blackberry Maximum Security time on Blackberry Manager:

On the Home screen click on:

Global Properties

IT Policy

In IT Policies click the “…” box

Select the policy you want to change

Click Properties…

Click Device-Only Items

Select Maximum Security Timeout

Your screen should look like this:

When entering the number keep in mind you can’t just enter any number. You have to follow what Blackberry wants you to set as the Maximum Security Timeout Policy.

The numbers you can use are:

So for example 3hrs is not an option. You can however select 2hrs or 4hrs.

How to change the Blackberry Maximum Security timeout in the Administration Service

This is the replacement for Blackberry Manager. I find it is much easier to find the Blackberry Maximum Security timeout setting in this application.

To change the security timeout follow these steps:

Login to the web interface

Click on Policy

Click “Manage IT Policies”.

Click on the IT policy.

In the policy Click on “Edit policy

Click on Device only.

Click on the The Maximum Security Timeout text box. The valid range for the value of this rule is 10 through 480 minutes.

Change the Blackberry Maximum Security Timeout on the Blackberry phone:

Once you have changed the policy on the server or if you aren’t under policy control then you can easily change the settings on the phone:

Change the Security timeout to what ever time the device will allow you to change it to.

I just learned today that there is no way of automatically configuring the Blackberry through a policy to allow the call display to work while locked. You can force the policy so that a user can NOT enable the display of the contacts while locked, you can’t do the opposite. As you can see from the screen shot below I’ve highlighted the *NOTE* in question.

*BOTH the admin AND the user MUST allow the address book to be excluded from content protection. Otherwise the address book contents ARE CONTENT PROTECTED.

To allow the contacts to be excluded you must either have “False” selected.

Next on the Blackberry hand held you must follow these steps:

Options -> Security -> General Settings -> Include Address Book –> set to "No"

For the Full write up on the policy:

Learn how to create screenshot with BlackBerry with few easy steps. Well documented step by step can be found on BlackBerryForums. But here is the dirty tutorial in case you do not want to read all of it and you are advanced (experienced) user.

Before you do this below I would strongly suggest to visit BBForums fist and read the whole thing.

Get Java Loader Commander unzip it.

Open Dos/Shell navigate to the folder.

Type JL_Cmder.cmd

And just go through the whole wizard. It’s simple as that.

I am just trying to let you know it is possible to do BlackBerry Screenshot. Unlike with iPhone all you got to do is press Home button and Power button at the same time!

I had an error on my Blackberry 8703e. The error message was "JVM 523
Error / reset". I found out from doing some research and calling the tech support of
my telephone company, that this is a known bug with a number of models of the Blackberry. Its occurrence can be random.

The cause is suspected to be that the Blackberry is going in to some kind of a loop
or hang-up with its Java software. It may take a fair number of re-sets by removing the battery to get the Blackberry going again. The looping problem has to be re-set.

You can also re-set the Blackberry by pressing the Alt-Num-Del keys as like the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys back in the PC DOS days. You must get the sequence of pressing these keys exactly right, and hold them down for about 6 seconds. This is a warm re-start, not a cold re-start as like
removing the battery.

One thing that happens most of the time when the Blackberry is starting up and the error is still present, it will give its regular desktop screen for about 5 to 7 seconds. This is before it shows this error with a full white screen.

A way that sometimes breaks the loop, is that as soon as the desktop screen is present, start alternatively {not together} clicking the "Stop Key" (Red Hang-up Key) and the "Escape Key" (Push Button on the side below the scroll key). This may get the Java program to abort.

A symptom of this problem can show when you start seeing the Blackberry is starting responding slowly while working with it. Eventually it will go in to this error mode by itself, or it will happen the next time you make it do a re-set.

If you have this problem, a good cleanup to try before re-installing its operating system is to delete all the service book files, and re-load them from your service provider’s Blackberry email and setup utility on the net. This will usually fix a lot of bugs with this device.

If the problem is not resolved, then a forced re-start can be done by downloading and installing the operating system. For this you will have to contact your service provider tech support to have them guide you to the correct site and version for your device. You will need the Blackberry backup and utility software installed on your PC with high speed internet access to do this task.

Re-installing the operating system is not a fix for this error problem. It will fix other problems if the operating system in the Blackberry is defective. The idea of the re-installation in this case is to force a system stop and a full re-start.

If you have to re-install the operating system in to your Blackberry, it may be advisable for you to have the service department of your service provider do this for you. If something goes wrong during the process, it is possible to create a non-reversible problem.

This JVM 523 error is a known issue with a number of models of Blackberry. I was told that it has not been properly resolved at this time.
