First you will need to install the needed canon software on your computer. All screenshots are taken on a Windows 7 PC but a Mac should be similar as well. The Camera software should have come with your camera.

Put the disk into the machine. If it doesn’t autoload go to your Optical Drive in My Computer and double click setup. Select “Custom Installation”

I would recommend only installing what ever you need. I am only going to install the EOS Utility.

You will be asked to click “Next” a few times and agree to Canon’s terms. You have to agree to them in order to install.

Now would be a good time to plug your camera into your computer. Connect the USB cable that came with the Canon 7D.

Open the Canon EOS. Click on “Camera Settings/Remote Shooting”.

Click on the “Hammer and Wrench” button.

You will now see the Owner’s Name, Author, Copyright etc.

Fill out each one of these items if you like.

Once you have added the info go to your camera and check things out to make sure everything was saved.

Click – Menu- Go to last item – Green with white star – Copy right information.

If you don’t have a USB chord or can’t seem to install the EOS software you can also manually enter everything on the camera. I find it to painful to do it this way. I would only recommend doing it this way if there is absolutely no other ways of getting the utility to work.

By default, Lightroom Develop module settings are stored in the Lightroom database. In order to ensure that Lightroom Develop settings can be viewed by Camera Raw 6.1, the settings must be written to the XMP metadata block for that file. This metadata is stored in an XMP sidecar file (imagename.xmp) in the path of the proprietary raw files, or stored directly within DNG files. To update images with the latest Develop settings, go to the Library module and select the group of images. Press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Command+S (Mac OS) to save the settings to the XMP metadata block. I feel like I’ve been learning so much about the theory of photography and I appreciate his writing style and descriptions. Because the book applies the theory with the same camera I own, I find that learning is about photography is so much more appealing.

The 3 Exposure Mechanisms

Shutter

Iris/Aperture

ISO

The shutter is positioned just in front of the image sensor. When you are using a very quick shutter speed you are going to let in less light then if you use a longer shutter speed.

The Aperture is positioned at the end of the lens. Much like the iris in your eyes the wider it gets the more light.

The ISO is a standard for measuring the sensitivity of the film. Digital vendors adopted the standard for the sensitivity of a digital image sensor. The image sensor measures the voltage on the sensor’s surface. ISO amplifies these voltages.

“Stop” Definition

Stop is a measurement of light. More specifically a stop represents a doubling of light.

“F-Stop” Definition

The “F-stop” is a measure of the ratio of the focal length of the lens to the size of the aperture. It might seem ass backwards but a larger F-Stop means that there is a smaller opening in the lens.
