Many times you might want to change the product key of Office suite installed in your system. It might be because your product key expired and you got a new one or it might be because you installed Office using pirated key and now you want to change the product key with a genuine one.

To change the product key you’ll have to uninstall the Office suite from your system and then reinstall it.

But here is a small and simple tutorial which will help you in changing the product key without uninstalling the Office.

Change Office XP Product Key:

Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration

Under "Registration" key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format: {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

3. Select each key and look at "ProductName" key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system "Microsoft Office XP Professional Edition".

Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane: DigitalProductID / ProductID

Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

Change Office 2003 Product Key:

Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration

Under "Registration" key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format: {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

Select each key and look at "ProductName" key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system e.g. "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003".

Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane: DigitalProductID / ProductID

Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

Change Office 2007 Product Key:

Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

Under "Registration" key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format: {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

Select each key and look at "ProductName" key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2007".

Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane: DigitalProductID / ProductID

Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Take a backup of "Registration" key before deleting the registry entries from right-side pane, so that in case the new product key doesn’t work you can restore the previous key without any problem. To take backup right-click on "Registration" key and select "Export".

If you are a x64 bit Windows user, then the key location will be different in registry. Please check following paths:

Office XP: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0

Office 2003: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0

Office 2007: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0

This post will cover an easy fix for not being able to activate office under certain conditions. Today I was busy installing updates on a new machine and wanted to Activate my copy of Office 2007. I went to activate the software and all the program told me was that it could not activate right now. It said I had XX times to continue to using Word. The only other option on the screen was to call Microsoft. I decided to let the update finish and restart the computer.

When I rebooted I started some more vista updates and then opened Word knowing I’d be prompted to activate the product again. Again the same issue happened. This got me thinking… Can updating Windows effect activating Office?? Really??

Guess what the answer is???

YES!

As soon as the updating in Windows Update was done I quickly hit “Activate Now”. Office activated within a second.

So now you know. If you are applying updates and needing to activate Office just activate Office first and then finish things off.

Outlook iCal Issue

I client of mind was having issues with sending Outlook appointments.

She was clicked on the “Calendar” she wanted to send.

She then clicked on the appointment.

She went up to Actions

Send as iCal

She would receive an error message stating that she didn’t have enough permissions to create an iCal

I found a program called “Outlook Temp Cleaner” that really helped me out. It turns out the reason why Outlook couldn’t create an iCal was a file in her temporary folder was corrupt. This program easily shows you where that folder is.

Make sure that Outlook is closed.

Install “Outlook Temp Cleaner” program

Once you have installed the software click on “Clean Cache”.

Once you have done this start outlook. You will notice that Outlook will start a little slower. It is re-creating the temp files it needs. Try sending the iCal again. You will notice that outlook will now Open an email with an iCal file in it like it should.
