The best way that I have found to sharpen an image was through a Photoshop lesson from Chris Orwig.

After everything in your photo has been corrected you will want to place all the items into their own group. I typically call them “Enhancement”.

In Windows I hit “CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+E” to make a new layer that a is the equivalent of all the layers merged into one.

While the top layer is selected you will want to click on “Filter-OTHER-High Pass…”

You will get a “High Pass” dialogue box pop up. Play with the radius. What’s nice about this technique is that it is better to add too much then too little. Click “OK” to apply the “high pass”.

Now hit “CTRL+SHIFT+U” to de-saturate the layer. This will make sure that the picture is only grey colors.

Now this is where things get interesting.

Make sure the top “high pass” layer is selected. You will need to apply a blend mode to the entire layer. I find “Soft light” produces the best results.

Now if the image is too sharp you can use the opacity of the layer to “decrease” the amount of sharpening by dialing it in to however you like.

The second way:

is by using the same key combo to merge all the layers up to the top later (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+E").

Turning the layer into a smart layer and then applying unsharp mask. Using the dials you can change the sharpening at any time.

Make the changes as needed.

Again since this is on it’s own later you can finely control the amount of sharpening either by the filter controls or through the opacity.

First of all I didn’t write this. It’s so good (and FAST) that I wanted to make notes on it. The original file can be found here. I hope I explain the process a bit better. http://community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show_download/915.

First things first. There are 3 things that you will need to do.

You will need to download PsExec which is a sysinternals program. You will want to extract it to a folder that is part of the path. I copied my files to C:\windows

You will need to Download this file. I made a folder called “C:\scripts” and saved it there. I rename it to: “Uninstall Utility.hta”. If you are wondering what “HTA” is, HTA is an HTML Application are per: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536496(v=vs.85).aspx

You will also need to be an administrator of the remote machine you are scanning.

Now that you have everything setup just double click the the file. Enter whatever computer name you want to remove the software from and click “Show Items” button. Hitting “Enter” on the keyboard does not work.

Hope this helps!

Today I found out that you actually have 3 facebook passwords! I found out about the passwords because when I logged into Facebook I left my caps lock key on. I thought that was strange so I opened a different browser and tried logging in again. Same thing. Even though I had my caps lock on I was still logged in.

My innitial thought that I was on a website that was pretending to be facebook to get my login credentials. Right away I did some research and I found Z-Net atricle that explains what was happening.

Facebook actually accepts three forms of your password:

Your original password.

Your original password with the first letter capitalized. This is only for mobile devices, which sometimes capitalize the first character of a word.

Your original password with the case reversed, for those with a caps lock key on.

The article went on to explain that there are some safety checks that happen AFTER entering your password and Facebook doesn’t feel that it is a safety concern.

Here’s a link to the article that had a very similar experience to what I found.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/facebook/facebook-passwords-are-not-case-sensitive-update/3612

When you use the Public Folders tool in Exchange 2007 SP1 you can’t change the client permissions for the public folders. I learned this the hard way today. It turns out you can still do it but you will have to open ‘Exchange Management Shell’ in order to do it.

Here the complete step-by-step:

Logon to your ‘Exchange 2007′ server.

Open the ‘Exchange Management Shell’.

Type the below, replacing ‘public folder name’ with your public folder name/path.

*NOTE* – You must keep the \ at the front of it and also replace ‘username’ with the username. Here’s how the command will look.

Add-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity "\public folder name" -AccessRights Owner -User username

Repeat the command for any other public folders that you wish to change the permissions on.

In the example above I used Owner but you can actually assign other types of permissions as well. You can replace Owner with the below:

None

Owner

PublishingEditor

Editor

PublishingAuthor

Author

Non-EditingAuthor

Reviewer

Contributor

When you run the command you should see something similar. I used PublishingEditor instead of Owner:

Hope this helps!

I was having all kind of issues trying to setup a template in VMM 2008. I originally got the dreaded: Error (13206)Virtual Machine Manager cannot locate the boot or system volume on virtual machine.

I found a great article on the subject where it says you can’t create a virtual machine from a template that uses a blank or Non-Microsoft based OS! The reason for this is the VMM is smart and it can actually peak inside the VHD to see what OS is in it.

In order to setup a template you need to make at least one virtual machine prior to making a template. The virtual machine that you made will be used and DESTROYED to make a template. I will repeat this again. The virtual machine that will be used for creating the template will be DESTROYED!

What does this mean to you? You will need to create one virtual machine that will have nothing else installed on it. This walkthrough assumes you have VMM setup and you’ve deployed at least one VM that has the same OS of the template you are wanting to make.

The Setup

I’ve already created a virtual machine called DC. It really isn’t a DC. I was originally planning on using it as one until I realized my newly created template did not work Looking back on things I would have called it something like “Lemming” or “Born2Die”.

You will need to click on the “Library” tab on the left side of the screen:

After you have done that you will need to click on “New Template” in the right hand column under “Library Actions”.

You will need to switch the default selection from “Use an existing template…” to “From an existing virtual machine that is deployed on a host”. Click “Browse”.

A new window called “Select template source” will open. You will select the VM that you will sacrifice to the Microsoft Gods. In my case it is “DC”. Click “OK” and then “Next” on the “select source” window.

Again you will be warned that the virtual machine that you selected will be used in a sacrifice for the greater good of easily creating VM’s with templates.

Fill out what you want to call the template.

You will need to leave these setting along. If you change the settings to something different from the virtual machine that was already made you will get a warning 10666 at the end of the procedure stating that the changes you made are not supported and were ignored.

Here I setup the “Password” and “Product Key” sections. You can also do things like telling the machine to join the domain etc.

After I have finished setting things up I don’t hit “Next”. Rather I “Save as” this custom profile so that I can use it again later.

Hit “ok” and now I hit “Next”. On the next screen you will need to select the VMM host server you are wanting to put the template on.

Click “Next”.

You will next be asked where you want to save the virtual machine. Browse for the path.

Select where you want to place the Template. I tend to put mine at the top level share. Hit “ok”.

You will be asked to confirm if everything is alright. If so hit “Create”.

After it is done I took a screenshot of the “Hosts” section. Remember I told you “DC” would be gone? Well here’s the proof!

You will now need to create a new virtual machine from a template. To do this you must click on “New Virtual Machine”.

You will need to click “Browse” and then select the template you just created. Click “OK” and then “Next”

Since I miss “DC” so much I am going to create her again.

Keep the hardware the same.

You will need to select the Windows 2008R2 Profile. The password and product key will be hidden from view.

Keep the default of “place the virtual machine on a host”.

Select the host where you want to put the VM.

Select where you want to save the virtual machines.

Specify the networks you will use.

Select what properties you want. Since this is a test environment I don’t want the VM to automatically start.

Review the config before saying yes to the dress.

You’re done! Let me know if this helped!

To fix the error: ”Someone else is already using the program under this name. Please use another username and or try again later” you will need to log in with another user in Multiuser Mode.

Are you getting this error?

You are most likely getting this error because of something you did. The services are turned off for Shrew Soft VPN.

To get it working you need to make sure that all three of the Shrew Soft VPN services are up and running.

They should look like this:

If this still doesn’t work for you reboot. Make sure that they are started. Try again. If not un-install the client.

Download and run CCleaner. Make sure to remove all orphaned registry entries. Re-run the latest build of Shrew Soft VPN. Let me know if this helps you.
