This post will cover how to Manage Hyper-V Servers from Windows 7. You will have to download a toolset from Microsoft. Once installed I will show you how to enable Windows 7 features that allow the machine to manage a Hyper-V server.
The first things you want to download and install is: Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7. Please note the download is around 215MB. The tool you need to manage Hyper-V Server from Windows will be installed as a feature through this update. The install screen will look something similar to this:
Once you install the software on your Windows 7 machine you should head over to the start menu and type “Turn Win”. The first item on the list should be “Turn Windows features on or off”. Hit enter or click the shortcut.
A window that shows the Windows features should appear. Find the “Remote Server Administration Tools”. There is a sub-feature set call “Role Administration Tools”. The second last item is the “Hyper-V Tools”. Check it off.
You will see a window showing the process.
Once it is done the Window will automatically Close. Go to the "START” menu and type “Hyp” in the search box. The first item should be “Hyper-V Manager”. Hit Enter.
In the “Hyper-V Manager” for Windows 7 you must now connect to the “Hyper-V” server to manage it. Click on “Connect to server”. A window will open. You must type in the server name you want to administer.
