This How to will go over a very basic setup where the server is doing a FULL backup every night. Based on that scenario I will go over how to restore the files from the tape.

Open Norton Backup Exec

You first need to select the backup and then catalog the media. To find the backup you have to look at the date of backup. Next Right click the backup and select “catalog media”.

This process normally takes around 5-10minutes. You will notice that the icon for the media if selected propperly will turn to a green play icon. The name of the Media Location will also be shown. On the server I am working at the Media location is just called IBM1. The backup tape drives normally make a bit of noise when it is going through the tape. This is to be expected.
