This review will be on the Lowepro Magnum 400 AW camera / lens carrying case. I bought this from my favorite Winnipeg camera store Dons Photo. I started off with an Ex 180 bag when I bought my first real DSLR camera which was a Canon T1i. While this bag was great for the Canon T1i and my two lenses 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit lenses it can no longer hold my new camera and gear.
When I first went looking around for a camera bag I wanted something that could hold a full sized camera with Battery pack, enough room for 3 or 4 “L” lens and a Speedlight or two. I planned that I would use this as my main storage device and if I just wanted to go out for walk I could always revert back to my EX 180 bag for something that was a bit more manageable.
After looking at pricing I didn’t go with the Magnum 400 AW at first. I chose the Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 AW. I figured after seeing a video like this: What’s in my camera bag (Lowepro D300) I thought for sure It would hold my stuff. Unfortunately I can’t pack the bag like the guy because I prefer to keep my lenses in separate compartments. No matter how I tried I couldn’t get my stuff to fit in the bag.
As you can can probably tell where this is going. I ended up returning the bag the same day and bought the Lowepro Magnum 400 AW bag. First thing I have to say is while this thing is large it’s not stupid large. It also has the most incredible padding you’ll ever have the pleasure of carrying a bag with. I ended up reading more about this feature when I got home. I found out Lowepro has a patent pending on the strap padding. The strap padding takes the weight of the bag and evenly distributes the weight over the ENTIRE padding. This makes for the bag to seem incredibly light and easy on the shoulders.
I’m able to put ALL my camera gear in this bag. The only down side is the bag is a little bit large. As stated before I plan on using my EX 180 bag as my go to walk around bag where I know what lenses I will need.
All in all I am very pleased with the quality of the bag and all the attachments that came with it. It comes with a great memory card and battery holder. I am also happy I bought this at Don’s photo on Boxing Day as the price was insanely reduced. I would highly recommend this bag to anyone who has more then a couple of lenses and a ton of attachments.
